Many of you in Hamilton took to a SoBi bike over the weekend. It was beautiful to see the splattering of blue at City Hall. This was done in protest of a decision by city council to store our social bicycles rather than the city taking over the operation temporarily until a new operator could be procured. Ward 3 councillor Nrinder Nann’s motion for today’s meeting asks council to consider that if Uber will not honour their contract, that the City of Hamilton take over interim management of the existing network using area ratings from Wards 1, 2 and 3, and that Hamilton take the necessary steps to recover the costs (and damages) of operating the Sobi network, and that staff begin the process of a competitive procurement process to find a new group to manage this infrastructure.Continue reading "SoBi or not SoBi"
