Simply Italian Bakery is simply delicious

Simply Italian Bakery (SIB) opened on Ottawa Street North on June 1st. Despite opening day hiccups like Interac machines not fully functioning, they had a busy day with customers coming and going all day long.  The space is modern, clean and bright with large windows facing onto Ottawa Street. 

There are plenty of tables and plenty of room. The space is divided into islands or sections with cash near the door, a dessert island, a coffee island, a gelato island, a pizza island and a hot foods and deli island. I arrived early and food was still being prepared for sale. 

The decor includes two pieces from Crown Point artist Paul Elia. They sit opposite each other on a bulkhead below the tin ceiling.

There are two small patio spaces perfect for enjoying a coffee or bite while people watching on Ottawa Street.

The food. Before, I begin, we in Crown Point are privileged to have so many wonderful places to eat and buy our groceries and it has just gotten better. We’re on a whole new level of goodness.

SIB will have a large selection of bread and rolls and baked goods. This photo is what they had ready when I arrived and the kitchen was going full tilt. Watch for our upcoming feature, The Breads of Crown Point.

I will probably die here. The deserts are amazing and plentiful. 

I mentioned, gelato, right? 

There are a variety of prepared sandwiches and salads to choose from for lunch or a quick dinner.

They have a wood burning pizza oven. I know this is Crown Point and there are few things more important than pizza. So I want to get this right. They are open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. each and every day. There will be lots of opportunity to try the pizza. I didn’t see a menu but they will have slices and personal size pizzas. I don’t know if they will a variety of sizes for take out and/or delivery. That will become clearer, I’m sure, as they settle in and complete the finishing touches. But, fellow Crown Pointers … A WOOD BURNING PIZZA OVEN!!!

The pizza …

This is a Margherita pizza. It is thin crust and well done on the bottom. It was delicious and now is in the running for the best pizza in the neighbourhood. My sister, a pizza connoisseur if ever there was one, took one bite and her only words, were: “Oh, wow.” My sentiments exactly.
