SPIRIT OF CROWN POINT: Spring

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The spring season provides abundant reminders of how beautiful change and transformation can truly be.

Personally, I am very happy to see signs of spring: the warmer temperatures, more daylight, and the early spring plants making their way through the hardened soil.

Spring is a time for us to think about change in our homes and our hearts. Here are some suggestions to nurture our spirits as we enter into this amazing spring season.

Get outside and walk. Walking for a minimum of 30 minutes a day helps us in mind, body and spirit. Enjoy walking in your neighborhood or down at the beach. I walk at the beach almost every day and I miss it when I don’t.

As an observer of life, I marvel at all the changes at the water and shore. Nature has a way of getting us to remember all that is good in life even when we are experiencing challenging times. Being in nature is good for the spirit.

Declutter a room in your home. We all have that one room or rooms that seem to always be cluttered. This past month I spent time decluttering my home office. At the start it seemed like an impossible task. There were piles and piles of paper. They need to be sorted, shredded or filed. It took many hours, however, I persevered mostly out of desperation to get some order in my home office.

Once the office was in order, I painted the room a lighter, brighter, colour. It has made such a difference in my mindset and how productive I am in the office.

Cultivate a sense of play. Research has shown that having play time or “down time” is very important in having balance in life. However, we all know that life is filled with stress and we have demands on our time and energy. So, it’s important that we take time to play, whatever that means to each of us. For me, it’s playing with my granddaughter, and sharing a meal with good friends who challenge and comfort me and laugh at my jokes.

To be honest, it’s a growing edge for me to strive for balance in life. I am very fortunate to visit weekly with an elderly woman who always begins our visit with the question, ‘What did you do for fun this week?” It’s a question that I now keep in my mind as I plan my week.

It is my hope that this article gives you some ideas about how to nurture your spirit this spring. We are very fortunate to live in Crown Point that has so many interesting things to do and see. May we all make the most of this spring enjoying every moment to the best of our ability.
